Request a valuationThe Docklands is located in the Southeast of London and is a zone that has undergone significant redevelopment. The Docklands comprises several neighbourhoods and districts along the river Thames and the former London docks. Some of the key areas that make up the Docklands are;
Canary Wharf is one of the most well-known districts within the Docklands. It is London’s financial hub, and many banks, financial institutions, law firms, and other businesses have offices there.
Royal Docks consists of the Royal Victoria Dock, the Royal Albert Dock, and the King George V Dock. Historically, these docks were important to London’s shipping industry. Today, the area has been redeveloped for various purposes, such as residential developments, commercial spaces, and ExCel (The London Exhibition Centre).
West India Docks is located near the more well-known Canary Wharf district. It was historically famous for trade with the West Indies. Like the Royal Docks, the area has been transformed, with historic warehouses converted into luxury apartments and commercial spaces.
Surrey Quays is situated further southeast along the Thames. The area has undergone major redevelopment, with the construction of residential buildings and the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre.
Poplar and Blackwall are located north of Canary Wharf, and both areas have undergone regeneration in recent years. They offer a mix of residential, commercial, and leisure developments, including housing estates, parks, and retail centres like Chrisp Street Market. Blackwall is also well known for the Black Wall tunnel, which provides motorists access under the River Thames to nearby Greenwich and beyond.
Isle of Dogs – Like most of the Docklands, the Isle of Dogs has undergone significant redevelopment in recent decades, transforming into a modern residential and commercial district.
Although technically not part of the original Docklands, the Greenwich Peninsula is adjacent to the area and has undergone significant redevelopment, including the O2 Arena (formerly the Millennium Dome), residential buildings, offices, and leisure facilities.
